Post gastric bypass diet-Eating After You’ve Had Gastric Bypass Surgery!

If you’re considering weight loss surgery, you probably have questions about what a post gastric bypass diet will be like.  It’s certainly a major consideration you’ll need to think about before undergoing the procedure, as your eating habits and practices will be radically different after you’ve had it done.  Here is some helpful information you can use to make an informed choice.

For several weeks after your surgery, you won’t be eating at all, at least not in the sense that you’re used to.  For a couple days after surgery, you won’t be allowed any food intake to give your body time to heal and adjust.  After that, your post gastric bypass diet will consist of liquids only for about a month.  Then you’ll spend a month or so taking in only pureed foods and liquids.  After this, you’ll gradually begin eating very soft foods, such as mashed potatoes, soft fruit, finely ground meat, etc.

After this phase, you’ll eventually be back to eating many of the same foods you did before your surgery.  But you’ll be eating them in very tiny amounts.  At first, you’ll only be able to eat an ounce or so of food at a time, which will certainly take some getting used to.  You’ll gradually increase the amounts, until eventually you’re taking in a cup or two of food at once, which will be the most you should ever eat on your post gastric bypass diet.

However, it’s likely you won’t be able to eat all the same foods you did before, as some of them will cause nausea or severe pain.  The only way to find out what foods cause this reaction is to try them, so whenever you introduce a food to your diet for the first time, it should be a tiny amount.  Also, you won’t be able to drink liquids with your meals, for the same reason.  These restrictions might sound tough, but thousands of people find that it’s better than walking around being 100 pounds overweight.  But that’s a choice you’ll have to make for yourself.
